Allergy Testing

Skin testing is a reliable and established method for diagnosing allergies, used for nearly 100 years and regarded as the "Gold Standard." It is quick, easy, and painless, providing results in about 20 minutes. The scratch test allows technicians to check for immediate allergic reactions to various antigens simultaneously, identifying allergies to pollen, mold, pet dander, dust mites, and food. Typically performed on the back for accuracy, we use a patented device to introduce a small amount of FDA-approved antigen into an open pore, requiring no needles or skin breaking.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy is an effective approach to minimizing diseases by positively influencing the immune system. It essentially reinforces the body’s defense mechanisms. Vaccination against infectious diseases stimulates the production of antibodies against specific invasive organisms, ensuring that a person is protected when they encounter those organisms naturally. This area of medicine has achieved remarkable success. In addition to combating allergens, bacteria, and viruses, immunotherapy is increasingly being used as a treatment for other diseases, such as cancer and various immunosuppressive conditions.

In the case of allergy immunotherapy (also known as desensitization therapy or allergy shots), the goal is to correct the immune system’s response so that it behaves like that of a non-allergic person when exposed to environmental allergens.

While the symptoms of allergic diseases can be treated with medications, such as over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription drugs, these typically only mask the symptoms without providing long-term desensitization. Additionally, the long-term costs of relying on these medications can be high. In contrast, appropriate slow-building immunotherapy directly addresses the underlying cause of the problem, offering patients lasting benefits. It can also prevent the development of late-onset allergies in many cases, as immunotherapy treats the disease rather than merely alleviating its symptoms.

Immunotherapy is usually administered in multiple, gradually increasing doses, most often through subcutaneous injections under the skin.
